The Amsterdam waterways are known all over the world. The seventeenth century grid of canals is an early example of excellent town planning. Some smaller Dutch cities like Delft and Dordrecht also have a lot of waterways. In Belgium, Bruges derives much of its attraction from the many canals and picturesque bridges. Amsterdam has 165 canals, 1281 bridges, 70 canal cruise boats, 8 wooden drawbridges, 2500 houseboats and 120 water bikes.

The canals are one of the major attractions of Amsterdam, also called 'Venice of the North'. By daytime the canals are charming, by night they become even more enchanting because many canal houses and bridges are beautifully illuminated. Many visitors to Amsterdam are surprised by the sheer amount of water in the city. And thus, a trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a boat-ride. A canal-tour can be both fascinating and relaxing by day and enchanting and romantic at night when many of the houses and bridges are illuminated. A canal cruise is a must to explore and discover Amsterdam.
